Here We Are

Ok. So its been about a month and a half since I posted. Wow. I've been busy with a new job and getting my life together. I know. No excuses.

I've been tinkering away with a few things here and there. Trying to get my mind organized basically. Here's some a character that I've been working on for a while. I'm doing 1 more color test and then I'll be able to post a color test sheet of the character to the blog.

Until next time (hopefully not another month), keep on drawing and painting!

Practicing Scenery

So I'm trying to figure things out. What my strengths and weaknesses are. Mostly focusing on trying to strengthen my weaknesses at the moment. And I've boiled it down to the fact that I need to get better at creating and drawing/painting scenery. Landscapes, Cityscapes, interior settings, and what have you. As of now I've completed just a few sketches of some outdoor settings, pictures that I found on the internet. After a few of these I'm going to start painting 1 or 2 of them because I certainly need some practice in that as well. I found for me that doing a bunch of gesture sketches of the human figure helped me understand the human figure a bit, and I tried to apply it in a sense to drawing scenery. I haven't gotten into the full gesture drawing, maybe I won't i don't know yet, but doing smaller sketches that include detail but not all of the tiny details helps to at least get a feel and understanding of how scenery is made up. Below are the rest of the sketches I have so far.

Character Design in Progress

Here's a character design that I'm working on. Just a kid's story character. And I desperately need to get a hold of a new Scanner, because these photos just don't cut it. I hope you enjoy them.

Pegasus work in progress

This will eventually be painted in photoshop. I only lined it with marker because my scanner isn't working and my small camera doesn't take very good photos of pencil.

The Beast Tamer's Basilisk

I tried something a bit different than my normal approach for this illustration. Its of a Beast Tamer with his Basilisk on the leash and he's confronted by a Shishi (Guardian creature of Chinese temples) who shows its fangs.

Troll on a Rampage

I decided to change things up a little bit. Still working on the black and white for a bit. The Troll in this image is a bit angry to say the least. The scenery is inspired from my trip to Bali and the wonderful cultural structures they had, mostly religious ones. It is always an exciting time traveling to different parts of the world. I decided to add some marker in with the Graphite pencil to bring out the deep shadows.

Not Speed painting yet.

Ok, well this isn't exactly speed painting, but here is a 1 hour progress of a painting I've started at midnight. In school we always talked about such random but interesting topics. While talking with illustrators things can be very imaginative, which always made things fun. Well, one day while in class somebody said they were doing a troll riding on a dragon, and I randomly said, "Oh! You should make it a dragon riding on a Troll!" ... and my friend Dan Valvo (NAME DROP) said that he could really imagine that image and it looked hilarious. A small troll doubled over from the weight of a massive dragon. Well, this image is NOT that massive dragon, but its a first step to that story. So here we are, a Dragon riding on a troll... in progress.

Optimus

I'm in progress of doing a painting of optimus. All ownership of the character are to Hasbro. I do not own this character.

Creatures

I decided to do some creature designs in photoshop today, to sort of do something different as well as get some new ideas of weird creatures to eventually use in the future. And I would like to thank Peter Lazarski for showing a technique he used to our class once while in RIT.

Thanks Pete!

Mossy Creek Kennel

So I've been working on some things lately. Here's a logo that I designed for my cousin, Joe, for his dog Kennels "Mossy Creek Kennel and Upstate Cooner".

He has been very pleased with it, and so am I.

Potential Storybook

The xmas and New years holidays are finally over. Its about time that 2010 is over with. With the new year of 2011, here's an update of what I've been working on. Then I've got some side projects that will eventually take flight. I'm just trying to finish this image so I can submit it to Spectrum Magazine.
